Amid speculation surrounding his future at FC Bayern Munich, Dayot Upamecano has made it clear that he will not be swayed by the ongoing transfer rumours. The defender has reaffirmed his commitment to the record champions and sent out a clear signal regarding his plans.

Dayot Upamecano is often discussed in connection with a possible transfer, especially after a season in which his performances have fluctuated. However, the Frenchman still sees his future at Bayern Munich. At the start of the season, he usually formed the centre-back duo together with Minjae Kim. Most recently, however, Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Dier were deployed in central defence.

After the 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln, Upamecano responded clearly to the rumours. „I have a contract until 2026, until 2026! There’s nothing more to say,“ emphasised the centre-back on Sky. The French international recently showed his willingness to learn from the criticism levelled at him. He said on French television: „People criticise in every profession. But if you only focus on the criticism, you will certainly not be successful.“

Upamecano „wants to stay here at FC Bayern“

Upamecano, who joined Bayern from RB Leipzig for €42.5 million in 2017, has repeatedly had to speak to the public and the media about his future. In March, he assured kicker that his focus was clear: „I want to stay here at FC Bayern and will continue to give it my all“.

Although Upamecano is still part of the team’s plans, the upcoming squad shake-up at Bayern could affect his situation. According to a BILD report, Upamecano wants to have a clarifying conversation with the Munich management in the near future to discuss his future. It remains to be seen how the team, and in particular the defence, will develop in the next transfer window.
