The 32-year-old centre-back’s contract with the Reds expires in the summer of 2025. That means Liverpool would have to think about selling him in the summer if they don’t want to risk a free transfer. Or they could extend the defender’s contract, which Van Dijk is not ruling out according to various media reports. His compatriot, incoming Liverpool coach Arne Slot, would also like to persuade Van Dijk to stay.

Numerous clubs are said to be interested in the Oranje star: These include clubs from Spain, Italy, Turkey, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.

Borussia Dortmund have also recently been rumoured to be interested in Van Dijk. However, according to BILD, there is no truth to the rumour. According to the rumour, Dortmund are looking to rejuvenate their squad in the coming season. Veteran Van Dijk would probably not fit into the concept.

However, Bayern may now be thinking about signing Van Dijk. The German record champions‘ preferred candidate for the defence is actually Ronald Araujo from FC Barcelona, but a transfer of the Uruguayan international could prove difficult due to the Catalans‘ high transfer fee demands.

Barca are said to be demanding up to 100 million euros for the 25-year-old. Bayern are rumoured to have already made a high-priced offer for Araujo in the winter, but the club rejected it. FCB could make another attempt in the summer – although Van Dijk could be an interesting alternative.
