According to reports, Man Utd, Arsenal and Aston Villa are among the clubs in the running to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio this summer.

Asensio has contributed with 12 goals and eight assists across all competitions this term but he has slipped down the pecking order at Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old has been limited to just 15 starts in La Liga and Fabrizio Romano has reported that he is ‘on the verge’ of leaving the Spanish giants when his contract expires in the summer.

He ‘turned down’ a fresh offer from Real Madrid last week and the ‘final decision’ on his future will be made ‘soon’.

Asensio has consistently been linked with the Premier League in recent years and he could move to England ahead of next season.

A fresh report from 90min have listed ‘potential destinations’ for Asensio. A move to PSG is considered ‘most likely’ at the moment but Arsenal, Aston Villa, Man Utd, AC Milan and Barcelona are also mentioned.

Aston Villa are ‘eyeing ambitious summer transfer targets’ and Asensio ‘may be lured by the opportunity of playing in the Premier League under Unai Emery’.

As for Arsenal, ‘a new right winger to complement Bukayo Saka is high on the club’s priority list’. They have ‘interest’ in the Real Madrid man but ‘there’s no guarantee the switch would provide Asensio with the minutes he craves’.

Earlier this year, former Premier League attacker Gabriel Agbonlahor argued that Asensio would be the “perfect” signing for Arsenal.

“It’s exactly the sort of signing they need,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“Asensio isn’t playing as much as he’d like right now. But he’s done so many good things for a long time at Real Madrid. He gets into tight spaces, he’s a flair player.

“They are the characteristics that Arsenal will be searching for this summer. And you look at their bench sometimes and just feel like they could do with a few extra top-quality signings.

“For me, he’s perfect. If Arsenal want to stay in that title fight every year, they’ve got to add to this squad.”
