Liverpool’s Cameroonian defender Joel Matip (32) has signalled to the club’s upper management that he wishes to stay on Merseyside despite his contract being set to expire this summer, reports Sports Zone.

As of now, only Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt have expressed a clear interest in acquiring the services of the German-born former Schalke 04 man, who has 27 international caps for Cameroon, the nation of his father Joel Matip, himself a former footballer.

Matip has played a reduced role for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds this season, making just 14 appearances in all competitions as the German coach has preferred Frenchman Ibrahima Konaté (24) and youngster Jarell Quansah (21) as a partner for the indisputable Virgil van Dijk.

Ligue 1 champions-elect Paris Saint Germain have been linked with the Cameroonian in the past, with former coach Thomas Tuchel holding a long-standing admiration for the defender.

Matip has made 201 appearances for Liverpool since joining in the summer of 2016, winning a Premier League and a Champions League amongst other prestigious honours.
