Here’s the Liverpool XI the last time they lost to Everton at Goodison Park - all the way back in 2010 when Roy Hodgson was manager.

Liverpool lost 2-0 to Everton on Wednesday, April 24th 2024. So technically, that was the last time the Reds lost to Everton at Goodison Park. Here's the XI, if you've forgotten it:

Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konaté, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz.

This was the first time in over 13 years that Liverpool lost away at Everton. Their starting XI that day, 17th October 2010, was wildly different, of course. In fact, all but one player is retired - some for a long time now.

Roy Hodgson was the manager in a miserable spell as Liverpool boss, with the defeat not coming as a massive shock. Tim Cahill and now-Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta got the goals either side of half-time.

This game was also notable for another reason - it was the first Liverpool match after John Henry and FSG (then New England Spot Ventures) bought the club. Not the greatest start, then, and the Reds failed to impress the new owners.

So what did the XI actually look like?

Pepe Reina

Bizarrely, Reina is still an active footballer. He's at Villarreal and played over 30 games last season. The Spaniard was a fantastic goalkeeper at the time and one who had won Liverpool's Player of the Season the previous season.

Jamie Carragher

Carragher at right-back - that's where things were at the time. Now a pundit, of course, Carragher had a magnificent career at Liverpool and would retire two seasons after this one.

Martin Skrtel

Arguably the only player in the XI whose peak wasn't behind them. Skrtel played another few years at Liverpool but his best would come after this as he took over as the main centre-back at the club.

Sotiris Kyrgiakos

An interesting signing at the time, Kyrgiakos arrived on a free transfer as a bit of a surprise. He had plenty of solid moments, though, and was exactly what Liverpool needed at the back in some respects. Left at the end of the season for Wolfsburg.

Paul Konchesky

Konchesky arrived from Fulham with Hodgson but never clicked at all. He didn't have the required quality and things were made worse as he was asked to adapt in a struggling side. Liverpool loaned him into the Championship two months after this.

Lucas Leiva

Lucas was derided for his first few years but 2010/2011 saw him come into his own. There was a spell in late 2011 where he was truly world-class. Injury robbed him of that prime, unfortunately, but for a moment there he was incredible.

Raul Meireles

Meireles was a surprise, exciting signing in a summer where Liverpool had nothing to spend. A really impressive first season showed wonderful promise - and then he was immediately sold to Chelsea.

Steven Gerrard

Don't really need to explain much here. Gerrard is Gerrard.

Maxi Rodriguez

Maxi had a fairly slow start at Liverpool but once 2011 came around, he exploded into form. A free transfer that made a massive difference once Kenny Dalglish took over and the Reds turned things around.

Joe Cole

2006 Joe Cole would have been a stunning signing. 2010 Joe Cole was not. Struggled to have any impact on the season and left after a year. A shame, given the hype when he arrived.

Fernando Torres

A world-class striker who had won the World Cup the previous summer - though, he did seem to be a little past his peak at this point. Enough so that Liverpool would cash in two months later by selling him to Chelsea for a British record fee. A sad end for one of the most memorable Reds.
