In a recent interview with Caught Offside, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. Romano said,

“Arsenal have also sent their scouts to follow Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao multiple times, and it’s the same for Chelsea as they included him in the list last summer,

“The race is completely open, and nothing is advanced with either club so far. He’d be great in the Premier League in my opinion – a physical and technical player; very good one.”

Williams’ Impressive Numbers In La Liga This Season

Williams has experienced a productive campaign at the Spanish club as he has put in a series of impressive performances on the left side of their attack. The 21-year-old has found the back of the net on five occasions and secured ten assists in 24 appearances for Athletic Bilbao this season in all competitions.

The Spanish wide player has been a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 1.9 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after making 79.2% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).

What Will Williams Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Team?

Williams is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few meaningful plays for others around him from the wide areas. He has got the pace to cause a lot of trouble for his marker and can even strike the ball with venom from long range. The Spaniard deserves a ton of credit for adding some goals and assists to his game and is currently one of the first names in Bilbao’s teamsheet.

Williams would add more pace and firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s attack. He has what it takes to rival Gabriel Martinelli for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.

At 21, Williams has the potential to become a future star in European football. He could even help the Gunners compete for some major trophies over the next decade. All in all, the Bilbao whizkid would be a terrific, long-term signing for Arteta to pull off in the summer.
