INEOS have made a massive statement of intent by restructuring Manchester United’s football administration by bringing in Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox.

The club’s hierarchy have also earned plaudits for making moves for René Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff.

However, the new co-owners at Old Trafford are struggling to show the same level of ambition with regard to signing new players.

United’s transfer budget is hamstrung by the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).

However, they are not the only Premier League club who are struggling this summer due to the regulations. Interestingly, the same predicament may end up giving a little boost to United’s financial concerns.

Last year, the Red Devils parted ways with their academy graduate Anthony Elanga, who moved to Nottingham Forest for a reported initial fee of £15 million. United also added plenty of add-ons in the deal as well as a sell-on clause, as per The Mirror.

The 22-year-old versatile winger enjoyed a promising season at Forest, scoring five goals and assisting nine times in the Premier League. This has led to interest from Newcastle United.

Amid their own struggles with the PSR, the Magpies are actively looking to sell their young forward Yankuba Minteh before June 30.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are interested in signing Elanga from Nottingham and sending Minteh in the opposite direction.

The talks between the two clubs have intensified over the last 24 hours, the report adds.

The supposed swap deal has the potential to not only help Newcastle in their bid to comply with the PSR, but it could also make a positive impact on United’s financial situation due to the reported sell-on clause, which should be honoured based on Elanga’s value even in the case of a player exchange.

However, in order to really make ambitious signings this summer, United may be forced to sell more academy talents, including Mason Greenwood.

The homegrown forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe, has attracted interest from France, Italy, and Spain in recent weeks.
