Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill has revealed that he is keen to extend his stay at Turf Moor beyond the summer of 2025.

He made this admission to BBC Radio Lancashire, with these comments likely to delight the Clarets' fanbase.

The midfielder had an option in his contract triggered during the summer to extend his stay for a further year - but they won't have the option to do that next year.

With this in mind, there's uncertainty regarding the player's future, with the ex-Bristol City man yet to put pen to paper on a new contract at Turf Moor despite his current deal expiring in 2025.

That isn't ideal for a side that needs stability after the departures of numerous key men during the latter stages of the previous window.

Wilson Odobert, Sander Berge, Dara O'Shea, Vitinho and Zeki Amdouni all left the Lancashire side during the final weeks of the summer window, along with Scott Twine, Anass Zaroury, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ameen Al-Dakhil, Wout Weghorst and Luke McNally.

With that number of departures in mind, Scott Parker needs to ensure he's keeping his remaining key men at the club to give the Lancashire outfit the best chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Agreeing a new contract with Brownhill may be near the top of the club's priority list, because both the player and the club may want certainty regarding his future as quickly as possible.

Josh Brownhill reveals stance on his Burnley future

Brownhill's deal may expire next year, but he is open to extending his stay beyond then, without fully ruling out an exit.

Making this admission to BBC Radio Lancashire (quotes via the Burnley Express), he said: "Yeah of course (when asked whether he'd like to stay). It’s one of them where my contract is coming to an end, is it in the club’s best interests to sort me out or is it mine?

"I’ve got a year left and I just want to keep focusing on performing very well, winning games and scoring goals.

"When it comes to the end of the year the decision has to be made. Is it the right thing for me to stay? Is it the right thing for the club to want me to stay? A lot can change in that time.

"While I’m playing well, enjoying my football and scoring goals I want to focus on that and see where it takes me until the end of the year."

Burnley should be looking to get Josh Brownhill tied down to a new deal

The Clarets' midfielder started the season well with his goal against Luton Town - and that strike gave him a platform to build on.

Clearly, he's a real asset at this level and the Lancashire outfit should be doing everything they can to keep hold of him for the foreseeable future.

Losing him for free would be extremely painful - and this is why a new deal has to be agreed - from the club's point of view.

From Brownhill's point of view, you could understand it if he wanted to wait until the end of the season and then weigh up his options.

The club will be hoping that they can make an offer tempting enough for the midfielder to sign a new deal, but whether they can do that remains to be seen.
