FLW looks at the attendances in Burnley's home fixtures so far this season

Burnley are one of the most loyally supported clubs in the Championship, with supporters hoping for a swift return to the Premier League.

Scott Parker's side have got off to a steady start upon their second tier return, after a summer of high turnover in the playing squad and the dugout following Vincent Kompany's well-documented departure to Bayern Munich.

Regardless, Burnley supporters remain expectant in terms of at least cementing a promotion charge with the calibre of players at Parker's disposal, on top of the 43-year-old's prior promotion record with Fulham and AFC Bournemouth.

Attendances can so often dip following relegation from the top flight, but at Turf Moor, which boasts a capacity of 21,944, that has been far from the case with an average attendance of 20,014 across the first four home outings in this part of East Lancashire.

The Clarets have enjoyed an unbeaten start on home turf so far this season, and with that being said, FLW has ranked the attendances from the quartet of games in order of size.

The lowest of the clubs' home attendances so far this season came in their most recent outing against Plymouth Argyle, managed by Manchester United and England legend, Wayne Rooney.

In what was a game low on high-quality chances, Josh Brownhill's 26th minute penalty proved to be the difference between the two sides in front of an 18,779 crowd.

Despite Burnley's home following remaining relatively strong for this encounter, kudos must be given to the number of Argyle supporters who made the 611-mile round trip from Devon for the midweek encounter.

Next up on this list was the Clarets' first home outing of the campaign, which saw them run riot against Cardiff City.

A crowd of 19,759 - which included 1,149 from South Wales - were present as Parker's men backed up a 4-1 opening day rout against fellow relegated side Luton Town with a 5-0 romp against the side who currently sit joint-bottom of the Championship table.

An Ethan Horvath own goal was followed up with goals from four different scorers in the form of Luca Koleosho, Brownhill, Zeki Amdouni and Johann Berg Gudmundsson as Burnley looked to immediately live up to their billing from outsiders, as a side expected to challenge for promotion.

In what was a first meeting between Burnley and Portsmouth in the North West since December 2011, a crowd of 20,476 saw the Clarets record a dramatic comeback victory over John Mousinho's side, who saw at least 2,100 supporters make the arduous journey up north on September 21st.

Pompey's tough start to the season had been well-documented, having already faced off against the likes of Leeds United, Luton, Sunderland and West Brom before their trip to Turf Moor.

It looked as though it would be the away supporters leaving with the three points, before Jeremy Sarmiento cut inside and sent a curling effort past Will Norris on 63 minutes.

And, with the game seemingly petering out to a 1-1 draw, the aforementioned Brownhill's services were once again called upon, as his effort seemed to take an age to beat Norris and send the home crowd into ecstasy with a 94th minute winner.

Unsurprisingly, the highest crowd at Turf Moor so far this season came in the East Lancashire Derby against Blackburn Rovers on August 31st.

The visitors were backed by over 2,000 of their own supporters, making for yet another vociferous atmosphere between the two bitter rivals.

The 'Turf Moor Roar' was more-than felt once Lyle Foster netted his first goal of the season after just ten minutes, before Rovers' Andreas Weimann hit back 12 minutes later with a spectacular volley which flew past James Trafford.
