Royal Antwerp defender Aurélio Buta is nearing an agreement to join Wolves on loan in January.

Nuno Espírito Santo is keen to bolster his defensive options, given European commitments, ahead of the second half of the season.

According to the Sunday Mirror, they are close to finalising a loan move for the Portuguese right-back when the winter window opens.

The story claims that Buta has been specifically requested by the man in charge to provide cover for Matt Doherty.

Unsurprisingly, given the nationality of the player involved, super agent Jorge Mendes will be involved in the deal for the former Portugal underage international.

Any deal for Buta is also set to include an option to purchase him permanently at the end of the season.

The defender came through the ranks at Benfica before making the move to Belgium in 2017, initially on loan before sealing a permanent switch.

Wolves aren’t the only Premier League side interested but are set to beat competition from Newcastle and Watford to his signature.
