Thomas Frank insists Tottenham are in the market for new players after the club confirmed James Maddison will miss the majority of the season with an ACL injury.
Tottenham previously tried to sign Morgan Gibbs-White earlier this summer to bolster their options in midfield, before the deal fell through.
“I think we are definitely in the market in general,” the Spurs boss said. “Of course, when players get a long-term injury we need to look into that, but generally we are in the market yes.”
Spurs lost 4-0 to Bayern Munich in their final friendly of the summer and lacked creativity in midfield.
Maddison has been a key part of the Spurs squad ever since he joined the club and Frank believes that he will be a big miss next season.
“Yeah, I think that’s devastating news for the team and for Maddison,” he said. “No doubt that we will miss him, and he will miss us.
“So right now, we just need to get through the first difficult spell until the surgery, and then in a few weeks after that there will be a little light that turns on and then he can work forward.”
Spurs suffered with injuries all throughout last season with big players such as Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven and a host of others missing large parts of the season.
Already in pre-season, Frank has been without Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, but the Dane says that some of those will be back soon.
“Yeah, I think it’s three different cases,” he said. “I think Dom is quite soon that he’ll be available. Destiny, we’ll know more about in the next couple of days in terms of how it looks in detail.
“And Kulusevski is out for a long time, which I spoke about before.”
When asked whether he is worried about Udogie’s injury, he said: “I’m not worried. We’ll just know more info in a couple of days.”
