According to Santi Aouna, West Ham United want Lille OSC manager Paulo Fonseca to replace David Moyes next season.

Fonseca is in his first season as Lille manager, and Les Dogues currently sit 5th in Ligue 1, which would be good enough for the club to earn European football for next season. It is thought that the Portuguese manager’s contract at Lille runs until the end of next season, but his time at the Stade Pierre Mauroy could be cut short.

West Ham are flying high in Europe and made the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League thanks to a comprehensive second-leg victory over Genk on Thursday. However, the club’s league form has been disappointing, and under Moyes, they are embroiled in a relegation battle. The Hammers are just four points ahead of 18th-placed Nottingham Forest.

The Premier League side are therefore in the market for a replacement, and according to Aouna, they are interested in Fonseca. The manager’s agent, Marco Aberu, has been contacted, and another meeting is scheduled for the end of the season. For now, the former Shakhtar Donetsk and AS Roma manager is focused on the task at hand at Lille, as they look to secure European football for next season.
