It’s already been a season of Premier League records and another one was broken on Sunday with Tottenham shipping three goals against Arsenal.

Following on from Harry Maguire’s strike against Sheffield United on Wednesday night breaking the record for most goals scored in a 20-team, 38 game in the post-1992 Premier League era, now Ange Postecoglou’s men have become the 16th side to concede 50 or more goals in the division this season.

That is a tally not seen in the top-flight in well over 100 years, and is possibly a result of the increase in added time and substitutions from three to five in recent years, as well as porous defences and an attack-first mentality of many of this season’s coaches.

That record could be equalled in the remaining games with Everton currently sitting on 48 goals conceded – the top three of Arsenal (27), Manchester City (32) and Liverpool (36) are the only sides you could say have been anywhere near watertight this season.

It makes for great viewing nonetheless. Long may it continue!
