Leicester City’s assistant manager Jennifer Foster says that the club must continue to aim for a top six finish this season, even though the challenge has become more difficult.

Last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at The King Power Stadium has left Leicester City nine points adrift of sixth-placed Tottenham Hotspur but The Foxes are not giving up hope just yet.

When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s trip to Aston Villa, Leicester City’s assistant boss Foster said that a place in the top six still has to be the club’s ambition.

“At the end of the day, we need to get maximum points from every game, that needs to be the mindset,” Foster said. “I think if we stray away from that, that’s when it could hurt us.

“That still needs to be the ambition. If for whatever reason we don’t get top six but it’s seventh, it’s still a massive push for us and a lot better finish than last year.

“As long as we go in with the mindset of taking maximum points from every game, we give ourselves the best possible chance. We just focus on us, you never know what results can happen elsewhere.”

This weekend’s opponents Aston Villa have a three-point advantage on Leicester City. Foster sees similarities in the two clubs’ seasons so far.

She said “They’ve probably been a little bit like us at times in the sense of managing to grind out results and get results. They’ve had some really good ones at that and then they’ve probably fallen short on occasion. I think it’ll be a great game.

“We know the strengths that they possess, especially in that front line. I think it’ll be a pretty even test and it’ll probably come down to some individual quality and some collective quality from the team at the end.”

Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
