Sheffield United have become the first side to be officially relegated from the Premier League this season.
The Blades have suffered through an awful campaign, with just three wins to their name and having conceded a record-breaking 97 goals with three games still left to play.
It is a record number for a 38 game season, and is just three short of the all-time Premier League record held by Swindon, which seems certain to be broken in the coming weeks.
Now, their long-suspected fate has been confirmed courtesy of defeat against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, with the Blades taking an early lead but eventually succumbing to a 3-1 defeat.
It leaves them on just 16 points with nine left to fight for, meaning that they can no longer catch 17th placed Nottingham Forest (who have 26 points).
Will they, like Leicester City, find a way back to the top flight at the first time of asking?
