Timo Werner says he is enjoying playing for Tottenham but the fate of his potential permanent transfer is out of his hands.

Werner joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in January and they have the option to sign him permanently for around £15million in the summer.

The 28-year-old made the opening goal with a low cross which was turned into his own net by Murillo as Spurs beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 on Sunday, and he has three other assists and two goals in 11 appearances.

Asked after the game if he would like to stay at Spurs permanently, Wener told Standard Sport: "I think the only thing I can say in the moment is that I like to play football here and the rest is not my turn.

"It's fun. I think the way we play, I can enjoy my football. My strengths fit well into the system and at the end it is about running, giving everything on the pitch and that's what I can try.

"[Sunday] was a really important game for us and that we can go top-four. That was our aim before the game and we did it. That's a good feeling."

Spurs went in level with Forest at the break after Chris Wood cancelled out Murillo's own goal but brilliant second-half strikes from defenders Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro earned a deserved three points.

After the game, James Maddison described summer signing Van de Ven as a special player.

"The joke is on me really because a player of that calibre I should probably have heard of in Europe.
