Despite suffering a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in the final at Wembley, many of the players from this era in the club's history remain popular with fans to this day.

But where are they now? FLW takes a look...

GK: Allan McGregor

Retired

42-cap Scotland international Allan McGregor featured 148 times for Hull between 2014 and 2018, among a core of players who stayed in East Yorkshire throughout the same time period.

Afterwards, McGregor returned to his boyhood club - Glasgow Rangers - where he remained a regular feature under a plethora of managers, including Steven Gerrard. This spell included the club's 55th SPFL title in 2021 as well as starting the UEFA Europa League Final in 2022 -losing on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt.

After announcing his retirement last summer, McGregor was handed a testimonial at Ibrox against Newcastle United and stated that he was unsure about his post-football plans at the time.

Ahmed Elmohamady became somewhat of a cult figure in East Yorkshire, winning two promotions at the club as well as featuring in the FA Cup Final.

Elmohamady made 217 appearances for Hull, scoring on 11 occasions, before being reunited with Steve Bruce at Aston Villa on a free transfer in 2017.

The Egyptian would then call Villa Park home for four years as Dean Smith re-established the club's top-flight status. And, whilst Villa are currently chasing a UEFA Champions League spot on the pitch, the 36-year-old is currently working in conjunction with the club's commercial department.

CB: James Chester

The first of City's two scorers is up next in the form of James Chester.

Chester was highly rated throughout his time at the club, going on to make 171 appearances under three different managers, as well as being a key part of Bruce's 2012/13 promotion side.

After Hull were relegated a year after reaching the showpiece event, Chester moved to West Bromwich Albion for an estimated £8m fee, before joining Aston Villa a season later.

Chester was also a regular at Villa Park prior to sustaining a serious injury in their promotion-winning campaign, before subsequently featuring for Stoke City and Derby County.

At present, the 35-year-old has become a mainstay in Pete Wild's Barrow outfit, who are enjoying a fine League Two campaign.

CB: Alex Bruce

This final could have been sealed after 12 minutes had Kieran Gibbs not cleared Alex Bruce's goalbound header off the line.

Bruce made 104 appearances and netted a solitary goal in a five-year spell at the club before being made aware of the termination of his contract in 2017 on Twitter.

He would then feature for Bury, Wigan Athletic, Kilmarnock and Macclesfield FC, before venturing into the dugout.

After an eight-month spell at West Brom as a coach under his father's management, Bruce was named manager of Macclesfield in October 2023, before departing to become a first-team coach under Karl Robinson at Salford City in February 2024.

CB: Curtis Davies

Cheltenham Town

Curtis Davies was Hull's Player of the Year in 2013/14, which was capped off by his goal to make it 2-0 after eight minutes before the Gunners' turned the game on its head.

The experienced and vocal defender was another key cog in Bruce's defence, representing the club on 144 occasions after signing from Birmingham City.

However, Davies would be released after the club's relegation from the Premier League in 2017, joining Derby County, where he would endure mixed fortunes.

The Rams missed out on promotion via the play-offs on two occasions, before Davies captained a youthful side in a turbulent 2021/22 campaign that saw Derby deducted 21 points as they were relegated to League One.

He remained at Pride Park for one more season prior to joining Cheltenham Town, as well as being called up to the Sierra Leone National Team for friendlies against Benin and Somalia. Davies is also often seen as an EFL pundit on Sky Sports.

LWB: Liam Rosenior

Liam Rosenior earnt cult status in Hull, partly through the fact his grandmother was a resident of the City.

However, his versatile and consistent performances also went a long way to earning such love from the supporters, as he made 161 appearances for the club after signing on a free transfer under Nigel Pearson in 2010.

The defender left Hull in 2015, before enjoying a three-year spell at Brighton before going into a coaching and punditry capacity. This included spells as assistant coach of Albion's U23s, as well as being named as Phillipe Cocu and Wayne Rooney's assistant at Derby County, prior to being given the main role of head coach ahead of the 2022/23 season on an interim basis.

However, the Rams opted to part ways in September 2022, but Rosenior would return to East Yorkshire less than two months later as head coach, establishing the side's position in the Championship with a 16th-place finish, before aiming to reach the Premier League after signing a fresh three-year contract in December 2023.

Up there as one of the most technically-gifted players to don the Black and Amber, Tom Huddlestone would also enjoy two spells at the MKM Stadium in his career.

The former England international made 161 appearances for The Tigers, which included his infamous goal against Fulham in December 2013, as well as being another promotion-winner in 2016 against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship play-off final.

He would join Derby in the summer of 2017 and make 90 appearances in what was also a second spell with the Rams, before coming out of retirement to feature five times for Hull upon their return to the Championship in 2021/22, before being released by Shota Arveladze.

Since then, Huddlestone has taken up a player-coach role with Manchester United's U21 side.

Jake Livermore also moved to Hull from Tottenham, making his loan move permanent after the conclusion of the 13/14 season.

The box-to-box midfielder registered 144 appearances during his time at the club, during which he endured mixed emotions, which included a ban between April and September 2015, after Livermore had taken a banned substance to cope with the grief of his newborn son's death.

After returning to the side, he aided Hull's instant return to the Premier League, before joining West Brom for a £10m fee midway through the following season. He would remain at the Hawthorns for five-and-a-half years, which included a lengthy spell as club captain, before joining Watford in 2023.

CM: David Meyler

Combative Irishman David Meyler is next, having been at the club for just under six years.

Infamous for a touchline incident with then Newcastle boss Alan Pardew in March 2014, but Meyler was often a big-game player for City, with famous strikes against Liverpool and Sheffield United in particular in the same season.

However, his gametime would somewhat dwindle after Steve Bruce's departure, and he was released in June 2018 after making 181 appearances.

Meyler would then make just ten further appearances for Reading and Coventry City, before calling time on his footballing career. He has since grown a YouTube channel, as well as returning to Hull as a U15s coach in 2023 and often being spotted at first-team home games.

Meyler's compatriot is next, having been a great servant for the club across a three-season stint.

Stephen Quinn is fondly remembered by fans for his work ethic and technical ability, particularly in the promotion season of 12/13 after joining from Sheffield United.

After relegation in 2015, Quinn joined Reading for a three-season period, before doing the same at Burton Albion between 2018 and 2021.

At 38, the Irishman is still plying his trade in the EFL as part of Nigel Clough's Mansfield side, who have been greatly entertaining in League Two.

ST: Matty Fryatt

Article image:The Hull City XI that lost the 2014 FA Cup final v Arsenal - Where are they now?

The FA Cup Final would prove to be Matty Fryatt's final appearance in a Tigers shirt, before joining Nottingham Forest on a three-year deal in the summer of 2014.

His time at the City Ground hardly went as planned though, making just 26 appearances for the club before retiring in 2018 through a long-standing achilles injury.

It was then revealed in 2020 that Fryatt would take Forest to court after claiming the club mismanaged the aforementioned injury, before the club agreed to pay a six-figure sum.
