Swansea City boss Luke Williams could be on the hunt for a new striker this summer as he prepares for his first full season in charge of the club.

Williams left Notts County to join Swansea as head coach in January after guiding the Magpies back to the EFL in 2023.

The 43-year-old, who replaced Michael Duff in the dugout, led the Swans to a 14th place finish in the Championship. He also avenged Swansea's defeat to rivals Cardiff City, which happened prior to his arrival, with a 2-0 win at the Swansea.com Stadium in March.

Swansea will have ambitions to improve on this season during the 2024/25 campaign, and will hope that Williams can avoid the same slow start that ultimately cost Duff his job in December.

One thing that Williams may want to do this summer is bring in a new striker, with current number nine Jerry Yates potentially available to clubs during the transfer window.

Swansea could move Yates on this summer if they receive the right offer for the 27-year-old, according to a report from Wales Online.

Swansea could make a move for Notts County striker Macauley Langstaff

Williams has touched on the fact that Swansea need more natural finishers at the club ahead of next season, suggesting that he intends to add another forward to his squad.

The Swans' current striking options include Yates and Liam Cullen, who scored 15 goals in the Championship between them this season, as well as Mykola Kukharevych, who netted just once.

It would be no surprise to see Swansea make an offer for Notts County's star striker, Macauley Langstaff, who worked with Williams during their successful time together at Meadow Lane. The 27-year-old is reportedly on Swansea's radar this summer.

Langstaff has scored an incredible 70 goals in 96 appearances for the Magpies, as well as providing 10 assists. He won the golden boot in League Two this season after notching a highly impressive 28 goals.

If Swansea want to bring Langstaff to South Wales this summer, it won't be easy. Notts County aim to reach League One next season and their chances of doing so will be greatly reduced if they lose their most important player, so the Swans would likely need to pay a significant fee.

Signing Langstaff will not be easy for Swansea

At the end of this season, Langstaff admitted that it would take "something incredible" to lure him away from Meadow Lane this summer. The striker appears to love playing for Notts County, who signed him from Gateshead in 2022 and gave him the platform to showcase his outstanding goal-scoring ability.

Williams and Langstaff both achieved promotion back to the EFL with the Magpies after beating Chesterfield on penalties at Wembley in 2023. Notts County's talisman told the BBC that he has now set his sights on promotion to League One: "I came here with the intention of getting the club back to the Football League, but once we got promoted my intention was to get the club to League One. I have three years left here and it would take something incredible (to leave)."

Langstaff, who signed a new four-year contract ahead of Notts County's first season back in the EFL, was recently named captain for the 2024/25 campaign.

Therefore, it seems unlikely in some ways that Swansea will be able to convince Langstaff to depart Meadow Lane, but if they are willing to do 'something incredible' in terms of a transfer fee and wage offer, then it could be a possibility.
