According to Fabrizio Romano, Sassuolo are attempting to hijack Olympique de Marseille’s bid for Hellas Verona’s Josh Doig (21) at the 11th hour.

Marseille could sign not one, but two left-backs this summer. Renan Lodi could leave OM just months after joining the club amidst interest from Saudi Arabia. The club are interested in Stade Rennais’ Adrien Truffert, and whilst the outcome of these negotiations is uncertain, Marseille did look set to confirm the arrival of Scottish defender Doig from Hellas Verona.

It was reported by Foot Mercato on Friday that a deal could be completed in a matter of hours, however, Sassuolo made a late bid to sign Doig, and Hellas Verona would prefer to sell him to their Serie A rivals, according to Romano. However, the player himself remains set on a move to the Véldrome.

The deal is now reaching a crucial stage. OM want a final decision and to conclude the transfer soon, otherwise, they will move on to alternative targets.
