Club América impressed mightily in their first season under Santiago Solari, winning 12 of their 17 matches this season and finishing second in the Liga MX table on 38 points.

This record, of course, brought inevitable comparisons with past manager Miguel Herrera.

While El Indiecito is proud of the work he’s accomplished, he did not want to take all the credit or the spotlight, pointing out that what Piojo had done in the past is nothing to be sneezed at.

“It seems to me that last year the mark was also surpassed. It is very difficult to reach that amount of wins (12) in short tournaments and anyone who reaches that mark… it is because a series of circumstances have to arise.

“It is a tournament where it is very difficult to win matches and you see that every matchweek. I am proud of the work of the players and the team. We know that the tournament has just ended and that now another one begins.

“In three days we will have a Concacaf Champions League match and we have all of that in mind.”

América will have the weekend off in order to catch a glimpse of all their potential quarter-final opponents, who will take place in this weekend’s Repechaje.
