Hero of last season and an equally bigger fall from grace this year, that has been the story of many Manchester United players.

However, arguably no player embodies that fall quite as drastically as Casemiro.

The Brazilian has gone from being the “cement between the stones” to a walking disaster who is only in the team because there are no other options.

His departure in the summer looks inevitable and finally, that wretched form has seen him pay the price internationally as well.

Casemiro has been dropped from Brazil’s Copa America squad as his bad performances have caught up with him.

The Brazilian has generally been a safe and tested lieutenant at the international scene regardless of what’s going on at the club level.

However, with the emergence of other talented midfielders in that area, former United reject Andreas Pereira being one, he has finally been squeezed out.

Joining him on the sidelines is another United Brazilian who has struggled this season in Antony.

Both players have fallen under the weight of expectation due to their price tag and perhaps have become symbols of a struggling club this season.

Casemiro lurches from one disaster to another as his tired legs struggle to cover acres of space in midfield and recently reached the nadir of his United career in the defeat away to Crystal Palace.

Antony, meanwhile, has drawn the ire of United fans for his lack of productivity combined with his theatrics and demeanour.

From a United point of view, Casemiro being dropped can be an advantage as if they sell him, they’ll have the player available to go throughout the summer.

In the case when they are not able to sell him, it would still be beneficial as he will finally get a whole summer off, maybe improving his form next season.
