Standard Liege’s match against Westerlo tonight has been abandoned after a major fan protest against the club’s owners, 777 partners.

The team coach was unable to reach the Stade Maurice Dufrasne due to supporters blocking it, leading to an official club announcement regarding the Belgian Pro League clash.

Standard fans have been deeply unhappy with the American private investment company’s running of the club since their 2022 takeover, which has seen multiple transfer bans and the club falling to 10th position in the league this season.

Their latest transfer ban came as a result of unpaid wages and failure to complete other payments.

The news will come of interest to Everton fans, who have been adamant that they do not want 777 to buy their club throughout the lengthy and ongoing process with the Premier League Owners’ and Directors’ Test.

In recent days, a takeover of the Toffees has seemed less and less likely, and it has been rumoured that 777 may depart football as a whole, starting with Standard.
