While accusations of Real Madrid manipulating the referees flow in from various parts of Spain, Los Blancos are in a battle of their own.

Florentino Perez & co. feel like they have been hard-done by referees themselves this season, and have sufficient reason to back their cause.

After all, the team’s recent clash against Atletico Madrid saw the men in white denied three clear penalties. Needless to say, that went a long way in the eventual result where the two Madrid-based sides split the spoils.

Massive breakthrough

Now, according to reports from El Debate, the president of the referees’ committee Luis Medina Cantalejo has been reported for alleged manipulation of VAR images with the aim of harming Real Madrid.

Referees Clos Gomez and Jaime Latre have also been mentioned as key figures.

Notably, some of the other referees under the spotlight have been involved in the Negreira scandal that continues to rock the footballing world to this day.

Among the referees in question are Ricardo de Burgos, Guillermo Cuadra, César Soto, Alejandro Muñiz, Pablo González Fuertes, Juan Luis Pulido Santana, David Medié and Ignacio Iglesias.

The alleged scam

The Spanish outlet further reveals that the primary crime the aforementioned names are being investigated for is the tampering of evidence, and thus corruption in the arbitration of Real Madrid matches.

For starters, it has come to light that the CTA use a certain ‘operating room’ near the VAR chamber that provides instructions to the VAR and AVAR against the official protocols.

More often than not, these instructions are accompanied by the selection of insignificant frames that alter the referee’s view.

Given that the regulations state that VAR officials must not be in contact with anyone except the on-field referee, the aforementioned scam is completely unacceptable.

Moreover, there is a more direct accusation of manipulation, theft and concealment of VAR images on the aforementioned referees.

With dubious views of the incidents shown to the officials, it is almost certain that the final decision is adulterated against Real Madrid’s favour.
