After a difficult last season where he was considered one of the most disposable players in the Real Madrid squad, Ferland Mendy has flipped his situation entirely.

Admittedly the current campaign was a slow burner for Mendy, with the Frenchman missing almost two months due to injury, but he made a stellar comeback at the turn of the year in the Spanish Super Cup.

And his performances in 2024 have been consistently bright, which has now increased the likelihood of a contract renewal.

Renewal in sight

Now, according to Spanish news outlet MARCA coach Carlo Ancelotti has requested that Ferland Mendy remains with the team, and the club’s leadership intends to extend his contract, which currently runs until June 30, 2025.

Due to the 28-year-old’s ongoing success, the club has prepared a proposal for a contract renewal, dispelling any doubts about an exit this summer.

Despite Real Madrid having their eyes on recruitment in the full-back position, the Merengues have not turned a blind eye to Mendy’s increasing worth and the balance he adds to Ancelotti’s team as a defensive stalwart.

Mendy’s significance to the team is evident in the fact that he’s on pace to match his record for most appearances in a season.

He has played in 33 games so far this year, with his career-high being 38 appearances.

Ancelotti has always vouched for Mendy

Ancelotti’s belief that Mendy is the best defensive full-back in the world is supported by the fact that the 28-year-old has been a constant presence in the Real Madrid lineup this year.

Moreover, reports previously also argued that Carlo Ancelotti is particularly keen on retaining Ferland Mendy permanently.

With the backing of the Italian coach and performances showing no signs of decline, Mendy’s continuity in the Spanish capital hardly appears to be in doubt.
