Excluding a few stars whom Barcelona have deemed ‘untouchable’, many players are anticipated to be on the chopping block this summer.

Given the Catalans’ unhealthy financial situation, funds from all avenues will be considered, and player sales have often proven to be the ideal remedy for such economic constraints.

In order to achieve La Liga’s 1:1 rule and spend in strategic areas to develop for the future, Barcelona may find it advantageous to sell players, particularly those with a lack of importance in the first team.

Inaki Pena could consider hitting the exit door

As per Mundo Deportivo, while Inaki Pena is not among those at risk of being sold, the goalkeeper is open to exploring new opportunities if the right offer comes his way.

Real Betis have shown interest in him and have asked about his situation, but the constraints of financial fair play could make it challenging for the Andalusian club to finalize his signing.

Pena is presently Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper and guarded the Catalans’ sticks for a few months in Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s absence as he was recovering from a back injury.

Although the Spaniard produced some stellar displays, his time between the goalposts was largely marred with inconsistency.

But Barça are likely going to want to hold on to him given they do not have many experienced options to replace Ter Stegen with, especially after parting ways with Arnau Tenas last summer.

This situation leaves the door open for other teams to make their move while Pena evaluates his future options at Barcelona.

Potential replacement for Pena

It has been reported that Luis Maximiano of UD Almeria is being studied by Barcelona as a potential goalkeeping option.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan from Lazio to Almeria, and the La Liga team still has the option to purchase him if certain requirements are completed.

If Pena hits the exit door, Barcelona may pursue Maximiano, whose contract with Lazio expires in the summer of 2027.
