So, predictably, we’re hearing every player Rangers have is being linked to the ex-manager at Villa.

The majority of all of Rangers’ assets seem to be a target for the former boss at his new post.

Nathan Patterson, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi and Alfredo Morelos have at some point since his exit been linked in the press with moves south.

What’s the reality of this situation? Is SG really interested in all these players?

No, is frankly the answer. Not as much more than squad players for the majority.

The only players SG might be looking at are Goldson and Kamara.

You see, Villa have a pretty much unlimited budget – they’re the 6th richest side in England, and they have no lack of plunder to cash out on new talent.

Therefore, as many fans say, why on earth would he come after players he signed on a Rangers’ budget, none of whom were considered, at that point, good enough for the PL?

The only players Rangers have that genuinely interested a PL side were Joe Aribo, with, funnily enough, Villa being the rival to the Famous when Rangers plucked him from Charlton, Nathan Patterson, who Rangers rejected an £8M bid for from Everton, and Glen Kamara, who we know an £10M bid came in for around late 2019 (unnamed PL team) and it was rejected.

These are literally the only players that there’s been known interest in, and now we’re expected to believe SG wants our entire squad?

Probably not.

He’s got the entire PL and Europe to look at, and yes, he knows our players like the back of his hand, but most of them stopped playing for him anyway.

We’re just not that sure that he’s going to be in for too many of them. If any.
