Glasgow Rangers have previously been linked with a move for Leicester City outcast Harry Souttar.

The centre-back has struggled for game time this year, with the Australian unable to break into Enzo Maresca’s plans.

This has led to speculation over his future with the Foxes ahead of the summer transfer window.

Former Rangers star Derek Ferguson has tipped the 25-year-old to join the Scottish giants this summer.

His brother John already competes at Ibrox, so a move would unite the duo together at international and club level.

Carlton Palmer expects Souttar’s Leicester departure

Carlton Palmer believes Souttar’s time at Leicester will come to an end this summer due to his lack of game time.

He has claimed that a move to Rangers would be a great next destination in his career, but expects there to be plenty of suitors for the defender.

“Rangers have been hotly pursuing Harry Souttar for some considerable time from Leicester City,” Palmer told Football League World.

“He’s stated that when the January transfer window came around that he wanted to stay and fight for his place.

“That hasn’t worked out for him, I think it’s inevitable he leaves Leicester in the summer.

“He’s not playing regular first team football, he’s not played regularly in the Championship and he’s not going to want to be a squad player.

“So, it’s inevitable that he will leave Leicester City in the summer, and without a shadow of a doubt Rangers, who have been pursuing him for well over a year now, I think would be a good fit for him to go to.

“There would be no shortage of people who will want to take Harry Souttar.

“He’s a very good player, very good international football player, he’s just not fitted into the manager’s plans, so he’s tried to stay there and wait for his opportunity, but that hasn’t come.

“It’s time for him to move on and I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him signing for Glasgow Rangers in the summer and teaming up with his brother.”

Harry Souttar's lack of Leicester game time

Souttar signed for Leicester in the 2023 January window from Stoke City in a deal worth a reported £15 million.

He made 12 appearances in the Premier League for the Foxes last season, but was unable to prevent the club from suffering relegation to the Championship.

Souttar has played just three times in the Championship for Maresca’s team, who are three points away from securing promotion straight back to the top flight.

Souttar’s Leicester exit is inevitable

The only thing that could save Souttar’s career at this stage is seemingly Maresca’s departure as manager.

The Italian has shown no interest in using the Australian this year, and doesn’t see him as a good fit for the team.

As long as that remains the case, then a sale away from the King Power is the only solution, especially as the club needs to sell players to raise funds.
