Rangers fans have delivered a shock verdict on Ibrox captain James Tavernier, by confirming he is completely dispensable and they are content to sell him at the right price.

In an Ibrox Noise poll, at 1500 votes and counting, only 6% of Rangers fans polled would refuse to sell him at pretty much any price, and keep him regardless.

A notable 10% would ‘sell him at any price’, while 84% were happy to sell him at either £5M or £10M, with 72% expecting a minimum of £10M.

Long story short, for all the tribalism surrounding him, and the extremely noisy and borderline abusive Rangers fans who defend his record and value to the club, the majority are at peace with shipping him out at a decent price.

Ibrox Noise is somewhere in the middle. Money speaks, and Tavernier is getting on – at 32, his value is going to come down pretty soon from now on.

His goals are also overrated – he has made no game-winning goal contributions aside St Johnstone for a long time, unless you count his 3 assists v Ross County – he’s nowhere near as indispensible as his 17 goals actually look.

He doesn’t really score big goals or winning goals at all.

His defending too has deteriorated badly this calendar year. After being overall third or better in serious defensive traits up till December, it’s fallen away the past four months and he’s been generally poor.

But we are also aware his best performance for a while came on Sunday when Goldson wasn’t there, and Leon Balogun was covering him instead.

Tavernier needs to be supported, and Goldson (and the midfield) haven’t really been doing that.

Which means pick the Sterlings in midfield and the Baloguns in defence, and Tavernier will shine much more.

But we don’t know if Philippe Clement is ever willing to pick Sterling in midfield or the Nigerian at the back again. He could revert to type v Saints.

Either way, Rangers fans are open to Tav’s sale.

The question is, is he?
