There’s something we may not have made fully clear in recent entries about PSV, and indeed Malmo.

Last season Rangers earned the third round of the CL qualifiers v Malmo, but while we’ve been comparing the quality difference between them and PSV, this was rhetorical.

See, the quality comparison really is between Union Saint and Malmo, because Rangers met both at the same level, the third round.

Had we won v Malmo, we still had the playoff clash, likely v the Swedes’ actual opponents Ludogorets, still to come.

PSV is equivalent to the highest level of football we have faced at Ibrox since the last time we were in the Champions League. By quite a distance.

Forget the UEL – it’s just no comparison with the CL – Dortmund weren’t good enough for the UCL and that’s why we faced them and Leipzig.

But today’s clash with the Dutch sides is the furthest/highest Rangers have gone in Europe pretty much since the last time we were in the group stage – 2010, by way of being SPL champions.

Last season we fell at the first hurdle, this season we’ve made it to the biggest one.

Make no mistake, PSV will be tough, and in this new era for Rangers, it’s the furthest we’ve been.
