Overview:
Peter Bosz’s PSV are looking to make it three titles on the bounce after a very busy summer in Eindhoven. They have already won their first piece of silverware this season, beating Go Ahead Eagles 2-1 in the Super Cup. Having scored 103 goals in the Eredivisie last season, PSV have lost several of their attacking starlets, and the departure of club captain Luuk de Jong is certainly an extra blow for the Champions. However, despite losing Malik Tillman, Noa Lang and Johan Bakayoko, PSV have invested well in some of their incomings so far.
From a defensive perspective, the loss of Olivier Boscagli and Walter Benítez to Premier League interest will see a big change in how their backline will take shape. The signings of Nick Olij and Matej Kovar will ensure that PSV have two capable goalkeepers ready to compete for the number one spot, whilst the signings of Kiliann Sildilla and Yarek Gasiorowski will add a youthful solidity to the side.
Transfers in: Ruben van Bommel (AZ Alkmaar), Yarek Gasiorowski (Valencia), Kiliann Sildilla (SC Freiburg), Alassane Pléa (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Nick Olij (Sparta Rotterdam), Matej Kovar (Bayer Leverkusen – loan).
Transfers out: Malik Tillman (Bayer Leverkusen), Noa Lang (Napoli), Johan Bakayoko (RB Leipzig), Oliver Boscagli (Brighton), Walter Benítez (Crystal Palace), Richard Ledezma (Chivas), Luuk de Jong (FC Porto), Joël Drommel (Sparta Rotterdam), Rick Karsdorp (without club), Lucas Pérez (without club).
Key player: Ivan Perišić
The Croatian veteran has had an illustrious career and shone brightly over the last campaign, registering 17 goal contributions in the Eredivisie. The 36-year-old has already come up with big goals at PSV and will be greatly relied on for a number of reasons this season. The departures of Bakayoko, Lang and Tillman have left the attacking department quite thin. Alongside Ismael Saibari, Perišić is one of the few members of the team has proven he can be a consistent match winner. Another key role for Perišić will be one of leadership. De Jong, Boscagli and Benítez were all strong leaders in the dressing room it’s up to Perišic now to bear some of that responsibility.
Young player to watch: Ruben van Bommel
Having just completed his €15million from AZ Alkmaar, van Bommel comes to Eindhoven with a lot of promise. With eight goals and five assists in all competitions in 2024/25, the exciting winger will now get his first taste of Champions League football. With his father Mark making 197 appearances for PSV, can Ruben follow his father’s footsteps and develop into a elite footballer at PSV?
Transfer window needs:
A complete attacking rebuild has started yet PSV are still linked with more players. According to Voetbal International, Parma winger Dennis Man seems to be the most likely replacement for Bakayoko. Another option that is being touted is Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen. The 25-year-old Wolfsburg player has not met the expectations set for him, and could be a great addition to the PSV squad. Peter Bosz also seems keen on boosting the left back position, with Frankfurt’s Niels Nkounkou a potential option.
