Manchester United and Ruben Amorim needed a result and a good performance at League Two Grimsby in the EFL Cup second round tonight.
After 45 minutes of hell at Blundell Park, it's safe to say neither of those things have happened.
From minute one, United were second best, being pinned in by the hosts, and looking more and more like the fourth-tier side as the half went on.
Charles Vernam gave them a deserved lead in the 22nd minute, smashing home at the near post.
André Onana could make a weak case for his defence in not saving that one, but he was totally at fault for the second, coming to claim the ball and instead entirely missing it.
It led to a comical goal from Tyrell Warren on what is fast becoming another night of shame for the fallen giants.
ONANA WITH ANOTHER ROUGH MOMENT AND MAN UNITED HAVE GONE DOWN 0-2 TO LEAGUE TWO SIDE GRIMSBY TOWN 😱–
Will this be Onana's last game for United? Could it be Amorim's? Anything is on the table at this point unless there is a serious turnaround in the second 45.
