PREVIEW: Durham v Lewes

Article image:PREVIEW: Durham v Lewes

Durham will look to maintain their strong start to the season when Lewes are the visitors to Maiden Castle this afternoon.

It was a disappointing end to last season for Durham as they finished runners-up to champions Leicester City, however, they have started this campaign with three wins out of four and another promotion push looks to be on the cards.

Durham boss Lee Sanders was been able to keep hold of virtually all of his players over the summer whilst also adding to forward Liz Ejupi squad. Last season’s top scorer Beth Hepple has continued her fine goalscoring form with a goal in all three of The Wildcats’ wins this season while summer arrival Ejupi got off the mark in a 2-0 win at Bristol City last weekend.

As for the visitors Lewes, they have endured a mixed start so far with four points on the board. After a difficult start against Bristol City, they overcame London City Lionesses and got a very credible point at Sunderland last time out. They were leading for the majority of the game before conceding nine minutes from time with an unfortunate own goal. Manager Simon Parker was pleased with his side’s performance at the Stadium of Light but he will be looking for further improvement if Lewes want to build on their fifth-place finish last season, their highest-ever league finish in their history.

The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Durham and Lewes kicks-off at 12pm with fans able to pay on the turnstiles via all payment methods.
