A nervy night in north-west London ended with Tottenham narrowly beating Chelsea 1-0.
Here’s how every player rated in Tuesday’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg.
Paulo Gazzanigga: 7 (out of 10)
A superb save from a deflected Hudson-Odoi cross in the first half, but otherwise the Spanish shot-stopper was relatively untroubled.
Kieran Trippier: 6
It took me 80 minutes before I realised I hadn’t made a single note about Trippier. Which pretty much says all you need to know.
Toby Alderweireld: 7
Was at fault for Christensen’s headed chance in the second half but did provide the assist for Harry Kane’s goal.
Davinson Sánchez: 7
Partnered Alderweireld well. Was given the job of following Eden Hazard and did a fairly decent job.
Danny Rose: 5
Will probably be having nightmares about Callum Hudson-Odoi for weeks to come. The opposite of good.
Harry Winks: 5
Harry Winks isn’t very good and that’s a hill upon which I will happily die. Once again, the English youngster did very little here to impose himself on the game.
Moussa Sissoko: 6
All legs and zero finesse, Sissoko has all the nuance of a bulldozer free-wheeling downhill. Slowly though, as proved here, he’s becoming a key member of this Spurs midfield.
Christian Eriksen: 7
Not at his absolutely sparkling best, but even with a middling performance looked a level above for Spurs.
Dele Alli: 6
Perhaps Tottenham’s quietest performer on the night. The England international was often on the ball but struggled to get between the lines and make an impact.
Heung-min Son: 9
Continued his superb run of form here. Son was urgent on the ball and always looking forward. Caused problems for the Chelsea defence all evening.
Harry Kane: 8
What more is there to say about Kane, really? He dispatched his first half penalty with the assuredness we’ve come to expect, and was generally excellent

Fernando Llorente: N/A
Kepa: 5 (out of 10)
Had a moment of madness when coming out to clatter Harry Kane for his penalty, but otherwise looked solid.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 6
A more six out of 10 performance you couldn’t wish to see. As ever, the Spaniard was solid in defence but lacked energy going forward.
Andreas Christensen: 6
Was lucky to escape without a card after bringing down Son early on and struggled with South Korean’s pace throughout.
Antonio Rüdiger: 6
Woefully exposed for the Tottenham penalty. The Germany international looked lost all evening long and never got close to Harry Kane.
Marcos Alonso: 5
Another victim of the Son Show, Alonso was pinned back all night and rarely looked comfortable.
Jorginho: 6
Seems to have gone off the boil since his revelatory performances earlier in the campaign – never truly got on the ball and didn’t dictate play enough.
N’Golo Kanté: 7
It just doesn’t look right seeing Kanté bomb forward. Having said that though, he hit the post in the first half and generally did what Kanté does with aplomb.
Ross Barkley: 5
Probably Chelsea’s quietest player in an attacking sense, Barkley never took the game by the scruff of the neck and was replaced on 75 minutes.
Willian: 6
Took far too many touches on far too many occasions. The Brazilian impressed with his pace out wide but often held on to the ball for too long and was replaced on the hour.
Eden Hazard: 8
Always looked to get on the ball, always looked to beat a man. It wasn’t Hazard’s night here, but it wasn’t for the wont of trying.
Callum Hudson-Odoi: 8
A proper player – and if this is to be his last Chelsea performance, he made sure it was one to remember. The 18-year-old caused Danny Rose problems all evening but needed the support of a central striker.
Subs
Pedro: 6
Came in for Willian with half an hour to go and made a few decent runs.
Mateo Kovačić: N/A
Olivier Giroud: N/A
