In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that Newcastle United are facing tough competition for Arsenal ace Emile Smith Rowe. It has been stated that the Magpies would have to rival Aston Villa in the race to land the English talent.

Smith Rowe’s Lack Of Game Time In North London This Season

Smith Rowe has struggled to earn a regular starting spot at the London club this season as he has often found himself on Mikel Arteta’s bench. The English attacker has only made 15 appearances for the Gunners during this campaign, picking up one assist in the process across multiple competitions. However, he is still waiting to open his goal-scoring account for this season.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye at times but failed to find consistency due to his limited playing minutes at the Emirates Stadium. Thus, he might welcome a move away from North London later this year.

Smith Rowe is under contract at Arsenal until the summer of 2026. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Newcastle to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Will Smith Rowe Be A Good Choice For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Smith Rowe is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few promising plays for his teammates on the offensive end of the field. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range but needs to ensure more first-team starts if he wants to improve as a footballer.

At the moment, the English attacker is playing a sporadic role in Arteta’s match-day squad. Thus, the Magpies should consider moving in for him if Eddie Howe is willing to offer him regular playing chances at the Tyneside club in the coming seasons.

Smith Rowe is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a left-sided wide player or as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. Someone with his skillset and versatility would no doubt be a welcome addition to Howe’s squad in the summer.

At 23, Smith Rowe has what it takes to become a fan-favorite at St. James’ Park. All in all, he would be a decent choice for the Magpies to pursue when the transfer window commences later this year.
