Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing up a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the summer transfer window.

The England shot stopper was relegated to second-choice at the Gunners this season after the club signed David Raya on loan from Brentford, a deal that is expected to be made permanent at the end of the season.

Ramsdale only signed a new contract with Arsenal last May, but his future is up in the air just one year later.

That could give Eddie Howe the opportunity to reunite with the player he previously signed for Bournemouth, as Newcastle are “pushing ahead with a deal” to sign Ramsdale, according to The Telegraph.

The report claims that the Magpies are willing to offer him a five-year contract and pay a transfer fee of £15 million – half of what Arsenal committed to paying for the 26-year-old in 2021.

When reports that a deal had been agreed emerged this week, Ramsdale took to social media to say it was “news to me”, but the Telegraph claim “sources have confirmed Newcastle’s interest in him and it is hoped a deal can be agreed after further talks”.

If Ramsdale does join Newcastle, then that means Martin Dubravka will likely leave St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window.

The Slovakian international has made 23 appearances for the North West outfit in the Premier League this season after Nick Pope dislocated his shoulder in December, but the 36-year-old

Ramsdale won’t be arriving as the automatic number one and will have to battle with Pope for the gloves. Howe is said to want more depth in the position following the team’s defensive struggles in the wake of the 32-year-old’s injury.
