In a recent print edition, The Sunday Mirror (April 14, Page 70) claimed that Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White this summer. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are showing interest in recruiting the English attacker later this year.

Gibbs-White’s Impressive Form In Premier League Football

Gibbs-White has been a reliable performer for Nottingham during this campaign as he has managed to put in a series of impressive displays for them in the opponent’s half. The 24-year-old has found the back of the net on six occasions and earned seven assists in 37 matches for the Midlands club this season in multiple competitions.

The Stafford-born talent has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.8 shots, 1.9 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has also been accurate when distributing the ball in the final third after completing 75.8% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Nottingham will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to sign him on a cut-price deal in the upcoming transfer window.

Is Gibbs-White A Good Choice For Newcastle United?

Gibbs-White can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals for his team.

The Stafford-born sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. He would bring more quality and depth to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s frontline. Gibbs-White is more than capable of fighting for a regular first-team spot at St. James’ Park next season.

At 24, the English talent has got his peak years ahead of him which makes him a great choice for the Magpies to consider in the long run. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Tyneside club if Howe can devise a way to bring him on board when the transfer window commences later this summer.
