Manchester City Women win 4-1 to put pressure on Chelsea | OneFootball

Manchester City returned to the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League with victory away to Liverpool, Aston Villa and Leicester City drew 2-2.

Liverpool started well against Manchester City but found themselves three down inside 25 minutes, as the visitors struck three times in a ten-minute spell.

A Jess Park effort ended up with Lauren Hemp who slotted home after finding a yard of space, Park doubling the lead via the far post after she took a ball from Mary Fowler into the box and skipped past two colliding defenders.

Khadija Shaw fired into the top corner from 25 yards to take her side’s goal-difference ahead of Chelsea, five minutes after the break and it was 4-0 when Shaw headed home Laura Coombs’ corner.

Liverpool got a consolation as Taylor Hinds’s 30-yard strike was tipped against the crossbar, came down off the post and went in off goalkeeper Khiara Keating.

Manchester City go into the international break as leaders, three points ahead of Chelsea who have a game in hand.

Aston Villa and Leicester City finished two-apiece, as Villa remain seventh and the Foxes go eighth, ahead of Brighton on goal-difference.

Adriana Leon gave Aston Villa a first-half lead from close range via Ebony Salmon’s cross but the Foxes levelled within three minutes, Lena Petermann providing the assist for Yuka Momiki.

Leicester went 2-1 up before the hour mark as Sam Tierney heading home from Momiki’s set-piece, Rachel Daly then bringing the hosts back on level terms by volleying in Jordan Nobbs’ ball into the box.
