Manchester City forward Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has been named as the Women’s FWA Footballer of the Year for 2023/24.

The Jamaica international has scored better than a goal per game for Manchester City this season, netting 21 times in 18 games to fire the Citizens within touching distance of a first WSL title since 2016.

Gareth Taylor’s side are six points clear of defending champions Chelsea and Shaw’s goals have been central to that success, with the 27-year-old eight goals clear of Chelsea’s Lauren James in the race for the Golden Boot.

The division’s two top scorers claimed 80% of the overall votes with Shaw, who will miss the run-in with a broken foot, beating James to the prize.

“I am very proud and privileged to have received this award and to be recognised in this way is a special honour,” Shaw said.

“I want to also thank all of my team-mates. They provide me with the chances to score goals and I could not have won this award without them.

“I also owe a lot to Gareth, the rest of the coaching team and everyone else here at City. It’s a pleasure to be part of such a special group.

“Many thanks to all who voted for me and to my fellow nominees. It means such a lot to have won this award.

“Hopefully the side can now finish off the season in style and give everyone special cause to celebrate.”

The award continues a stunning period for Shaw in English football, who has now scored 72 goals in 83 games for Manchester City since her arrival from Bordeaux in 2020.

Shaw’s success made it a double triumph for Manchester City, after Phil Foden claimed the Men’s award.
