Jadon Sancho is reportedly eager to return to Borussia Dortmund, a club where he experienced his most consistent form and personal contentment. According to Bild, “for the highly skilled technician himself, it would be a matter close to his heart to wear the black and yellow shirt again.” That sense of belonging, unmatched by his stints at Manchester United and Chelsea, has sparked serious internal debate in Dortmund about whether a second spell makes sense.

Sancho is willing to go to great lengths to make it happen.
Bild reports that Sancho has already informed the Dortmund hierarchy, including CEO Lars Ricken and Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl, that he would accept a significantly reduced salary to return. Currently on around €16 million per year at Manchester United, Sancho is said to be ready to play for half that figure.
This would place him outside the club’s highest earners, with Niklas Süle reportedly earning €14 million annually. Despite this, Sancho appears committed to rekindling the form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting wingers.
Sancho’s career has stalled. At United, he failed to meet expectations. His loan at Chelsea brought no real revival. Bild adds, “the 23-time England international knows that his next move has to be right and that he cannot afford another setback in his career.”

He has even been left out of pre-season training sessions, with Rúben Amorim opting not to include him even among the fringe players like Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford before he left for Barcelona.
While Dortmund appears the emotional favourite, Juventus remain interested in signing Sancho. But if the Bundesliga side makes a serious push, Bild believe “the fan favourite would almost certainly choose to return to his beloved club.”
Sancho arrived at Old Trafford with immense expectations, and the club invested heavily in him, both financially and emotionally. But it simply never clicked. Whether it was tactical confusion, off-pitch issues or a mismatch in playing style, the spark seen in Dortmund never ignited.
Now, the idea that he is training away from even the out-of-favour group speaks volumes. Amorim’s stance is clear. There’s no path back into United’s setup for Sancho, and at this point, a permanent departure would serve both parties. If he’s willing to slash his wages to play in Germany again, it only underlines how desperate he is to rediscover his joy and rhythm.
Fans will feel disappointed, perhaps even frustrated, that it came to this. But with Juventus also circling, United should act swiftly to negotiate a reasonable deal. Holding out for a fee that reflects what they paid in 2021 feels unrealistic. Sancho needs a clean break, and United need clarity in the squad. Letting go might be the first step in putting right what has felt wrong for far too long.
