There were big saves at both ends and some wasted scoring opportunities too, as Torino and Fiorentina shared the spoils in a disappointing start to the season.
The mood in the Granata camp was dire after a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Inter in the opening weekend. Ardian Ismajli, Zanos Savva and Perr Schuurs were still out, but new signing Kristjan Asllani was thrown straight into the starting XI. The Viola were held 1-1 at Cagliari, then had to fight back from 2-0 down to beat Polissya 3-2 on Thursday and qualify for the Conference League. Christian Kouame was the only absentee and Roberto Piccoli was immediately given his debut after the move from Cagliari.

Cesare Casadei completed a quick give and go with Giovanni Simeone to burst into the box, but he was denied by a desperate David De Gea save.
Dodo spotted Franco Israel off his line and attempted a lob that was just over the empty net, while Moise Kean blasted several attempts well off target from promising positions.
Israel needed a great save with one hand to deny Piccoli when the new buy was sent clear by Simon Sohm’s slide-rule pass on 34 minutes.
Pietro Comuzzo’s half-volley from distance whistled just wide of the far post, while De Gea smothered a Cyril Ngonge angled drive.

De Gea was alert for a great save on 41 minutes, getting just enough onto the Simeone strike from a tight angle to turn it over after good work from Ivan Ilic.
Fiorentina gave youth team defender Eddy Kouadio his Serie A debut for the second half, while Kean had penalty appeals rejected as he crashed into Ilic.
Kean was fortunate that whistle had already gone for a Luca Ranieri push, because he had somehow managed to head the Robin Gosens cross-shot off the line and over the bar from a yard.
Edin Dzeko came on and was decisive helping the defence, nodding a Valentino Lazaro corner off the head of Guillermo Maripan.
