Lucien Favre expressed disappointment at his side’s lack of composure after Borussia Dortmund fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to struggling Köln on Saturday.

The visitors travelled to the Westfalenstadion without a league win to their name.

Köln made the most of their set-piece opportunities, however, with Ellyes Skhiri getting on the end of two corners.

Thorgan Hazard pulled one back, but it was not enough to prevent BVB from falling to their third loss of the season.

“Köln were very organised. Their approach was to sit back, they played well. We lost our patience a little bit and sometimes rushed it,” Farve said afterwards.

The Dortmund boss explained other areas his side fell down in, but admitted that the result was all that he was really interested in.

“We should’ve played with more tempo, passed the ball with more tempo. And we were lacking the correct movement,” the Swiss native said.

“We had too few clear-cut goalscoring chances. We were expecting a difficult game – and that was the case.

“Conceding the two goals from corner-kicks is a tough one to take. They flicked on the ball towards the back post twice. We lost, and the result is the only thing that counts.”

Dortmund will look to bounce back when they face Lazio in the Champions League on Wednesday.
