In a recent tweet, journalist Florian Plettenberg mentioned that Liverpool are set to rival Arsenal for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Willian Pacho. It has been claimed that the Reds have identified the Ecuadorian centre-back as a target for the summer transfer window.

Pacho’s Impressive Form In German Football

Pacho is having a solid campaign at the German club as he has put in a series of impressive displays at the heart of their backline. The 22-year-old has featured in 35 matches for his current employers this season in various competitions.

The Ecuador international has been a dominant presence on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 2.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even distributed possession accurately from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 84.3% in the German first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Frankfurt will expire in the summer of 2028 which would make it tough for the Reds to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Is Pacho A Good Option For Liverpool?

Pacho is a tough-tackling defender who can time make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his robust 1.87m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team.

At the moment, Pacho is playing at a high level in the Bundesliga. However, there are some question marks over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in English football if the Reds manage to get him on board this summer.

Pacho would bring more bite and steel to Liverpool‘s defensive department. He is good enough to replace Joel Matip whose contract at the Merseyside club runs out this summer. At 22, Pacho has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, he would be a great option for the Reds to pursue in the long run.

The Ecuador international has what it takes to help the Merseyside giants compete across all fronts in the coming years. With all things considered, Liverpool should focus on trying everything they can to lure him to Anfield in the summer transfer window.
