Demark are making a good fight of this but it feels like time is running out for them here.

Germany really do have a star on their hands with 21-year-old Jamal Musiala.

GOAL: Jamal Musiala doubles Germany's lead after latching on to a wonderful long ball and finishes with real style.

CHANCE: Rasmus Højlund finds himself in plenty of space in the box, but fires his shot straight at Manuel Neuer

Denmark fans must've gone from sheer joy to absolute despair after that crazy 60 seconds, and to make matters worse, the offside was about as marginal as you can get.

GOAL: Germany take the lead as Kai Havertz converts his penalty

PENALTY: Germany awarded a spot-kick for a handball!

Denmark thought they'd scored through Joachim Anderson but the goal was disallowed for offside

They don't look like getting one, let alone two, right now.

Do not rub your eyes! The Azzurri have managed their first effort on target as Retegui rolls a tame one straight at Yann Sommer.

Seconds later they go much closer, as Scamacca hits the post from close range. Is there life in Spalletti's side yet?

70': Italy's turn to dominate the ball, but they can't do anything with it. Switzerland's defence is holding strong and earning them a game against England or Slovakia as things stand.

61': Italy are still yet to have a shot on target, but the last few minutes have seen them see more of the ball.

Safe to say, people are not impressed by Italy's performance on social media....

Italy have offered nothing but are nearly gifted a way back into the game as Fabian Schar heads the ball past Yann Sommer and onto his own post!

It would have been the most generous of lifelines for the Azzurri.

From that giveaway, Italy are punished in the worst way possible.

Ruben Vargas picks the ball up inside the Italy area, before curling a stunning finish past Donnarumma.

It was a long way back for Italy after 45, it's a mountain now after 46.

🔁  46': The Italians are making a change at half time.

The hero against Croatia, Mattia Zaccagni, is on for the ineffective El-Shaarawy.

The Azzurri kick off, and immediately give the ball back to Switzerland. Not a great omen.

A friendly reminder that Italy are the reigning champions, having won at Wembley in 2021.

They look a long long way from that side right now. "Tragic", "Clueless" and "lacking fighting spirit" are just some of the accusations being thrown at Spalletti's side on social media.

HALF TIME: Switzerland 1-0 Italy

A well deserved lead heading into half time for Switzerland, who have been as excellent as Italy have been awful and may be a little upset to be only 1-0 up.

Remember, the winner of this faces one of England and Slovakia, who meet tomorrow in Gelsenkirchen.

45': YELLOW CARD:

Italy just cannot get going and El-Shaarawy becomes the second Azzurri player into the book for a foul 25 yards from goal.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is once more called into action with a flying save to keep out the set-piece effort from Fabian Reider.

Into three minutes of added time we go.

How about that...

37' GOAL: 1-0 Switzerland

All that pressure finally pays off, and from an unlikely source.

Remo Freuler ghosts into the Italy penalty area like a prime Frank Lampard, taking the ball beautifully before firing it past Donnarumma.

It's a well deserved lead, and Italy fall behind for a fourth game in a row.

35': YELLOW CARD

Barella picks up a booking for a foul on Granit Xhaka. It's the closest he's been to the Bayer Leverkusen man all afternoon in midfield.

32': Aebischer is giving Di Lorenzo nightmares down the Italian right hand side.

The Azzurri can hardly get out of their own half but beside the one chance from Embolo, Switzerland haven't created any clear cut opportunities.

At the other end meanwhile, Gianluca Scamacca has had just five touches.

24': CHANCE!

Italy want the offside flag as Breel Embolo runs onto a ball over the top, but he can't start his curling effort far enough away from Donnarumma, who springs to his left to push the ball out.

Replays show he was onside. A massive let off for the Azzurri.

20': We've had one shot apiece in the opening 20 minutes.

Italy's effort was from El Shaarawy and it was blocked. Meanwhile, Dan N'Doye fired his shot wide for Switzerland.

Both teams very much still feeling each other out here, despite Switzerland having almost all of the ball.

10': The game is stopped briefly for an injury to Nicolò Barella.

After some magic spray, he seems okay to continue. Still Switzerland dominate the ball, with Granit Xhaka having seen more touches than most of the Italian side combined.

6': It's been all Switzerland so far, with Italy looking nervous in the opening minutes. They finally get into the Swiss penalty area, but it comes to nothing as El Shaarawy bundles over Dan N'Doye.

KICK OFF: Switzerland get us underway, and immediately win a corner via a deflection that had Gianluigi Donnarumma worried.

The teams are out in the Berlin sunshine, and the Italy national anthem is sung with it's usual gusto.

Switzerland's is far more measured.

Here's hoping the two sides serve up a cracker here.

Fear not Italy fans, there is still plenty of hope when we turn to the stats.

The Swiss have not beaten the Azzurri in their last 11 attempts, a run stretching all the way back to 1993.
