OneFootball Videos

FULL TIME: Germany book their place in the quarter-finals in their own back yard!

CHANCE: After Antonio Rüdiger celebrates a tackle at the one end, Germany go close at the other as Kasper Schmeichel saves a chance from Kai Havertz with his feet.

CHANCE: Germany have the ball in the net in stoppage time, but it won't count.

Demark are making a good fight of this but it feels like time is running out for them here.

Germany really do have a star on their hands with 21-year-old Jamal Musiala.

GOAL: Jamal Musiala doubles Germany's lead after latching on to a wonderful long ball and finishes with real style.

CHANCE: Rasmus Højlund finds himself in plenty of space in the box, but fires his shot straight at Manuel Neuer

CHANCE: Kai Havertz ends up one on one with Kasper Schmeichel but puts it wide of the post

Denmark fans must've gone from sheer joy to absolute despair after that crazy 60 seconds, and to make matters worse, the offside was about as marginal as you can get.

GOAL: Germany take the lead as Kai Havertz converts his penalty

PENALTY: Germany awarded a spot-kick for a handball!

Denmark thought they'd scored through Joachim Anderson but the goal was disallowed for offside

And we're back. The referee Michael Oliver was looking ominously at the sky but hopefully the weather will hold to get the game finished.

HALF TIME: After the long delay to an eventful first half, the players go back in for the break.

CHANCE: A flowing move from Denmark culminates in Manuel Neuer having to pull off a brilliant save from Rasmus Højlund

Apologies for the lightning spam, but isn't this picture incredible?

CHANCE: Kasper Schmeichel makes another big save from a Kai Havertz header after David Raum had put in a brilliant ball into the box to create the opportunity

The players are back out warming up and the game is going to restart.

☔️ These guys are making the most of things!

The deluge of rain and subsequent waterfall is drawing the inevitable comparisons with Old Trafford 😏

The players are heading back into the dressing rooms as the torrential rain begins to fall. This is dramatic stuff!

GAME SUSPENDED: Referee Michael Oliver is taking the players off the pitch due to the lightning.

After Germany's lightning (sorry) fast start, Denmark seem to have taken the sting out of this one, for now at least.

⚡️ There looks to be a storm coming in Germany. There's lots of reports of thunder and lightning from the stadium.

Manchester United's Rasmus Højlund is having a lonely night so far... 😬

CHANCE: Christian Eriksen controls the ball beautifully just on the edge of the box but Rüdiger is equal to it with a brilliant block

Sorry to futher depress any England fans that are following along with us, but Toni Kroos created four chances after just 12 minutes against Demark. More than any England player has created in the entire tournament.

CHANCE: Antonio Rüdiger plays a lovely long ball up to Kai Havertz, who forces a save from Kasper Schmeichel. The Danish stopper is having to work really hard to keep Germany out here

DISALLOWED: Germany think they've scored through Nico Schlotterbeck, but the goal is ruled out!

KICK OFF: Let's see how the hosts get on!

Believe it or not, Germany have failed to reach the quarter-finals at the last three major tournaments 😳

🇨🇭 Granit Xhaka has had a brilliant season at Bayer Leverkusen, and now the statisticians are telling us that he's only been dispossessed once at this tournament. Wow.

🇩🇪 If you're wondering why Niclas Füllkrug isn't starting for Germany tonight, here's the answer straight from the horse's mouth.

🇮🇹 Italy boss Luciano Spalletti has blamed 'tempo' and 'sharpness' for their lacklustre performance against Switzerland. You can read more of his comments here.

And if two knockout games weren't quite enough excitement for you, Gareth Southgate is currently speaking about England at his press conference.

Barely time to breathe before the next game gets underway, and the teams are out.

Germany drop Florian Wirtz for Bayern speedster Leroy Sane, while David Raum also comes in at left back.

Meanwhile, Denmark bring Thomas Delaney for Hjulmand, and Skov Olsen replaces Wind in attack.

THERE IT IS!

🚨 Switzerland are heading into the last 8 for the second time in their history, and for a second consecutive time.

The holders are out, and in truth they never looked in it.

Next up: England or Slovakia.

Into two minutes of added time here in Berlin....

The Swiss fans are making plenty of noise.

88': They knocked out the World Cup winners France back in 2021, and now Switzerland can see another scalp in the shape of Italy.

Could they be a serious contender to reach the final given their position on the favourable side of the draw?

84': Do Italy know they are 2-0 down? They are knocking it from side to side without really threatening Sommer in the Switzerland goal.

Pellegrini the latest to try his luck from close to 30 yards. Poor from the reigning champions.

79': There is still time for Italy to get back into this, but you would think they need a goal in the next couple of minutes to really have a chance of shocking the Swiss.

They don't look like getting one, let alone two, right now.

73': 🚨 ITALY HAVE HAD A SHOT ON TARGET.

Do not rub your eyes! The Azzurri have managed their first effort on target as Retegui rolls a tame one straight at Yann Sommer.

Seconds later they go much closer, as Scamacca hits the post from close range. Is there life in Spalletti's side yet?

70': Italy's turn to dominate the ball, but they can't do anything with it. Switzerland's defence is holding strong and earning them a game against England or Slovakia as things stand.

61': Italy are still yet to have a shot on target, but the last few minutes have seen them see more of the ball.

🔁 Barella is sacrificed for a more attacking option in Mateo Retegui. Needs must and all that.

Safe to say, people are not impressed by Italy's performance on social media....

They still have half an hour to turn things around, but that isn't looking at all likely right now.

56': YELLOW CARD

Mancini becomes the third player into the referees notebook after losing a 50/50 with Reider.

No Swiss player has been carded yet.

In case you wanted a visualisation of just how poor Italy's second half kick off was.....

52': CLOSE!

Italy have offered nothing but are nearly gifted a way back into the game as Fabian Schar heads the ball past Yann Sommer and onto his own post!

It would have been the most generous of lifelines for the Azzurri.

46: GOAL! Switzerland 2-0 Italy

From that giveaway, Italy are punished in the worst way possible.

Ruben Vargas picks the ball up inside the Italy area, before curling a stunning finish past Donnarumma.

It was a long way back for Italy after 45, it's a mountain now after 46.

🔁  46': The Italians are making a change at half time.

The hero against Croatia, Mattia Zaccagni, is on for the ineffective El-Shaarawy.

The Azzurri kick off, and immediately give the ball back to Switzerland. Not a great omen.

This man is ageing like fine wine... 🍷

A friendly reminder that Italy are the reigning champions, having won at Wembley in 2021.

They look a long long way from that side right now. "Tragic", "Clueless" and "lacking fighting spirit" are just some of the accusations being thrown at Spalletti's side on social media.

HALF TIME: Switzerland 1-0 Italy

A well deserved lead heading into half time for Switzerland, who have been as excellent as Italy have been awful and may be a little upset to be only 1-0 up.

Remember, the winner of this faces one of England and Slovakia, who meet tomorrow in Gelsenkirchen.

Article image:🔴 LIVE: Germany v Denmark back on after lightning stops play, Italy out

45': YELLOW CARD:

Italy just cannot get going and El-Shaarawy becomes the second Azzurri player into the book for a foul 25 yards from goal.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is once more called into action with a flying save to keep out the set-piece effort from Fabian Reider.

Into three minutes of added time we go.

How about that...

37' GOAL: 1-0 Switzerland

All that pressure finally pays off, and from an unlikely source.

Remo Freuler ghosts into the Italy penalty area like a prime Frank Lampard, taking the ball beautifully before firing it past Donnarumma.

It's a well deserved lead, and Italy fall behind for a fourth game in a row.

35': YELLOW CARD

Barella picks up a booking for a foul on Granit Xhaka. It's the closest he's been to the Bayer Leverkusen man all afternoon in midfield.

32': Aebischer is giving Di Lorenzo nightmares down the Italian right hand side.

The Azzurri can hardly get out of their own half but beside the one chance from Embolo, Switzerland haven't created any clear cut opportunities.

At the other end meanwhile, Gianluca Scamacca has had just five touches.

24': CHANCE!

Italy want the offside flag as Breel Embolo runs onto a ball over the top, but he can't start his curling effort far enough away from Donnarumma, who springs to his left to push the ball out.

Replays show he was onside. A massive let off for the Azzurri.

20': We've had one shot apiece in the opening 20 minutes.

Italy's effort was from El Shaarawy and it was blocked. Meanwhile, Dan N'Doye fired his shot wide for Switzerland.

Both teams very much still feeling each other out here, despite Switzerland having almost all of the ball.

To put the early Swiss dominance into perspective....

No efforts on goal from either side yet though.

10': The game is stopped briefly for an injury to Nicolò Barella.

After some magic spray, he seems okay to continue. Still Switzerland dominate the ball, with Granit Xhaka having seen more touches than most of the Italian side combined.

6': It's been all Switzerland so far, with Italy looking nervous in the opening minutes. They finally get into the Swiss penalty area, but it comes to nothing as El Shaarawy bundles over Dan N'Doye.

KICK OFF: Switzerland get us underway, and immediately win a corner via a deflection that had Gianluigi Donnarumma worried.

The teams are out in the Berlin sunshine, and the Italy national anthem is sung with it's usual gusto.

Switzerland's is far more measured.

Here's hoping the two sides serve up a cracker here.

Fear not Italy fans, there is still plenty of hope when we turn to the stats.

The Swiss have not beaten the Azzurri in their last 11 attempts, a run stretching all the way back to 1993.

The man in charge that day? A certain Roy Hodgson.

Remember, you can follow the game live with us right here as Italy and Switzerland battle it out for a place in the last eight.

Granit Xhaka's side knocked France out of the European Championship last time round, could it be Italy's turn this time?

🚨 TEAMS ARE IN:

Italy make SIX changes to the side that drew with Croatia, with two enforced in defence thanks to suspension to Riccardo Calafiori and injury to Federico DiMarco.

There is also a first appearance of the tournament for forward Stephan El Shaarawy.

Italy XI: Donnarumma (C), Di Lorenzo, Mancini, Bastoni, Darmian, Fagioli, Cristante, Chiesa, Scamacca, El-Shaarawy.

Meanwhile, Switzerland make just one enforced change as Ruben Vargas replaces the suspended Widmer.

Switzerland XI: Sommer, Schar, Akanji, Rodriguez, Aebischer, Frueler, Xhaka, Reider, Vargas, Embolo, Ndoye.

England's players are preparing to make their way to Gelsenkirchen for tomorrow's meeting with Slovakia and look who's leading from the front.

The countdown to kick-off continues in Berlin and this drone footage of the Olympiastadion really is something to behold.

Away from the EUROs, André Onana has been making productive use of his summer break. There really should be more elite-level players doing this sort of thing in their spare time.

Georgia's clash with Spain takes place tomorrow and Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has sent a pointed message to his next opponents in the pre-match press conference just now

Italy fans have been on the receiving end of food-based warfare throughout EURO 2024 and today is no different as their Swiss counterparts descend on Berlin!

Who doesn't love a good cliché? There's likely to be more than a few in Gareth Southgate's press conference later and this compilation from the redoubtable Bryan's Gunn will get you suitably prepared for them.

Denmark fans, look away now! Germany's EURO knockout record is one to be reckoned with ahead of tonight's showdown in Dortmund.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia remains a man of the moment after his scintillating midweek display for Georgia which helped set up a last-16 meeting with Spain. But the winger's long-term future is still very much up in the air after he reportedly rejected Napoli's latest contract offer. You can read all about it here.
