Sheffield Wednesday are a side that are expected to be very busy in the remaining days of this transfer window.

This is the first chance manager Danny Rohl has had to make the necessary changes to his squad as they bid to stay in the Championship for another campaign.

The Owls made a terrible start to the campaign, but in recent weeks they have picked up a good run of form that has seen them have a great chance of surviving relegation.

Wednesday are four points adrift of safety with 19 league games remaining, so this month is a chance for them to strengthen their side, not weaken it.

Therefore, that means Rohl is likely going to want to keep hold of attacker Josh Windass, who has been the subject of transfer interest in recent weeks.

Josh Windass’ contract situation

Windass has been with the Owls since 2020, when he was brought to the club from Wigan Athletic.

The 30-year-old spent six months on loan at Hillsborough before joining the club on a permanent basis.

Windass, who can operate anywhere on the forward line, has been a decent signing for the club, as he’s been more prolific in a Wednesday shirt than anywhere else.

Last season, the attacker scored 11 goals in 34 League One appearances, with him grabbing the all-important goal in the play-off final win over Barnsley.

Windass has had his injury problems this season, with him only featuring 17 times in the league, but he has shown glimpses of his importance once again.

The forward has now entered the final six months of his contract at the club, with no sign of a new contract being agreed.

It was reported by Sky Sports Transfer Centre (January 4, 2:50pm) at the beginning of this month, that Argentine side Club Atlético Talleres are interested in signing Josh Windass in the summer.

This is because the 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer as mentioned, and therefore, he can sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign side including Scottish, Irish, and Welsh teams.

At the time, the report stated that Windass would become the first-ever Englishman to play in the Argentinian top-flight, should he make the move, though any deal is not at the advanced stage yet.

Atlético Talleres have had interest in Windass before, as they made a public pursuit of the attacker back in 2022, making what was believed to be a six-figure offer.

As well as the interest from Argentina, it has also been reported that two MLS clubs are also admirers of Windass.

It’s been reported by The Athletic’s Tom Bogert, that two unnamed Major League Soccer sides are interested in signing Windass this month, while also claims that teams around Europe are interested in the 30-year-old.

Unlike Atlético Talleres, these two MLS sides are keen to sign Windass this month as they prepare for the 2024 MLS season, which will get underway in a couple of months.

If these two MLS sides are keen on signing Windass this month, then that will mean an agreement will need to be reached with Sheffield Wednesday, as the player cannot leave for nothing until the summer.
