The Mexican national team announced the 24-player roster for the upcoming U.S.-based friendlies against Australia and Uzbekistan, with Hector Herrera and Raul Jimenez returning to the fold.

The latest squad stands as the first official selection for new head coach Jaime 'Jimmy' Lozano, who earned the permanent role as El Tri manager after initially replacing Diego Cocca on an interim basis. He took charge following the dismissal of Cocca in late June, quickly adapting to lead the Mexican team to the 2023 Gold Cup trophy just weeks later.

Now, he will form an integral part in the team's development on the road to the 2026 World Cup. And it starts with the upcoming friendlies, as El Tri hosts Australia on September 9 in Dallas and Uzbekistan in Atlanta on September 12.

Though European staples like Salernitana's Guillermo Ochoa, Feyenoord's Santiago Gimenez and new West Ham figure Edson Alvarez are set to make the trip stateside, Lozano insisted other players abroad like Jesus 'Tecatito' Corona, Jorge Sanchez and Cesar Montes will remain with their teams for adaptation purposes.

He added that due to ongoing trades and moves, forcing travel would impede on the players' futures. But their absence paves the way for new faces Cesar Huerta, Jordi Cortizo and Jesus 'Chiquete' Orozco to make an impact on the pitch.
