Monaco signed off for the season by making it six wins from their last seven (as part of a run which has seen them beaten just once in their last 12) in the same style which has lit up that run.

They were simply devastating in blowing Nantes away early en route to a 4-0 victory.

9. Inter (👎 Last week: 5)

Inter slipped up for the second time since securing the Scudetto as they needed a late Denzel Dumfries leveller to rescue a point at home against Lazio.

But the hard work has long been done and you can allow them to take their foot off the pedal. It has been an exceptional year for Simone Inzaghi’s men.

8. Sporting CP (👎 Last week: 7)

Even since wrapping up the Portuguese title, there was no chance of Ruben Amorim’s free-scoring sensations coasting into the summer as they concluded their campaign in style.

A 3-0 win over Chaves took their stunning league run to 19 wins (and one draw) from their final 20 games with Viktor Gyökeres netting twice in the finale to take his tally for his debut campaign in Lisbon to 40 goals in all competitions.

7. Borussia Dortmund (👍 Last week: 9)

The Champions League final is now just over a week away with Dortmund one win over Real Madrid away from bringing the biggest prize in club football back to the Westfalenstadion.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as they warmed up for it by seeing club icon Marco Reus off in his final home game (and of course he signed off with a stunner) by thrashing Darmstadt 4-0.

6. Crystal Palace (👍 Last week: 8)

The Eagles’ form under Oliver Glasner has been outstanding and they signed off for the season in perfect fashion with another result that reverberated around the league.

Unai Emery’s Champions League-bound Aston Villa were thrashed 5-0 on the final day as Jean-Philippe Mateta hit a hat-trick to continue his purple patch. Things are going to be very exciting at Selhurst Park next season.

5. Bayer Leverkusen (👎 Last week: 2)

After almost a year and over 50 games, Bayer Leverkusen’s incredible undefeated streak came to a screeching halt on Wednesday night against Atalanta in the Europa League final.

Xabi Alonso’s tactics proved costly as their dreams of an invincible treble died in Dublin but a glorious domestic double is still on the cards if they can see off second tier Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal final this weekend.

4. Arsenal (No change)

There was to be no final day drama or title win for Arsenal in the end but the improvements are there, in black and white in the form of points tallies, for all to see under Mikel Arteta.

They kept up their side of the bargain until the end, defeating Everton 2-1 at home in their last game of 2023/24 – a season which may have concluded without a trophy but will be remembered fondly by the Gunners faithful.

3. Real Madrid (👎 Last week: 1)

Impressive results from others elsewhere mean that Los Blancos have lost their grip on top spot in our rankings.

While silverware was being scooped by their rivals, they fell victim to Alexander Sþrloth’s four-goal haul for Villarreal, although to their credit even with bigger games ahead, they still avoided defeat in playing out a dramatic 4-4 draw.

News of Toni Kroos’ impending retirement has put something of a downer on their week though.

2. Atalanta (👍 Last week: 6)

One of the great footballing stories of recent years, Atalanta and coach Gian Piero Gasperini finally got their hands on the trophy they deserve for a decade of wonderful work in Bergamo.

Ademola Lookman smashed in a rare European final hat-trick as they put the ghosts of previous final defeats firmly to bed with a ruthless 3-0 win over previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen.

The party is likely to last all summer in Lombardy.

1. Manchester City (👍 Last week: 3)

Champions yet again, Manchester City also made history in the process as they become the first team in English football history to win four consecutive championships.

Pushed all the way by an ever-improving Arsenal side, they showed their quality, mentality and desire to rip up the record books by seeing off West Ham 3-1 in their final game – inspired by the heroics of Player of the Year Phil Foden.

They’re not done yet either and could make it a double by defeating Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
