Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that Roma have gotten a great player in the form of ex-Nerazzurri striker Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after his team beat Cagliari 2-0 in Serie A, via FCInterNews, the coach reacted to the Giallorossi’ anticipated signing of Lukaku, and also gave his thoughts on his team’s performance in Sardinia.

With the season already underway and the transfer window days from closing, Lukaku’s summer saga is approaching its end.

The 30-year-old had looked for all the world as though he would be returning to Inter.

Then, after the Nerazzurri angrily pulled the plug, Juventus seemed his likely destination. Even AC Milan looked well within the realm of possibility.

Lukaku’s actual next club is perhaps not as shocking as either of those two.

However, the Belgian is making the move back to Italian football.

And for his part, Inzaghi doesn’t hide the fact that he thinks Roma are getting a good player in the context of Serie A.

Inter Coach Inzaghi Reacts To Roma Getting Lukaku, Cagliari Win

Inzaghi was clear, stating that “Roma have made an excellent signing.”

He called Lukaku “A great player for Italian football.”

“But I’m satisfied with the players I have,” the coach continued. “And with the whole Inter family. I hope we can have a great season again.”

Of his team’s 2-0 win over Cagliari, Inzaghi said that “The guys did very well. We got our interpretation of the match right.”

“I asked the team to approach the match in the right way because we were up against a newly-promoted team. They’d done well in their first match, and were in front of their home crowd.”

“But my team was perfect,” Inzaghi said.

As for the importance of wingbacks in his system after an early Denzel Dumfries goal, the Inter coach said “They’re very important. It also depends on the formation.”

“We have midfielders who can become like second strikers when we need them to.”

Praise For Marcus Thuram

Of summer arrival Marcus Thuram, Inzaghi said “He got here forty days ago. And when he got here, he immediately started putting his dead down and working.”

“He’s a player who’d fit in quickly, he understand our style of play.”

“He knows when to attack the space in behind,” Inzaghi said of Thuram. “And when to drop deeper.”

“I’m very satisfied with him, I’d like to see him score too. He deserves it for all the work he’s put in.”

Of his new captain Lautaro Martinez, Inzaghi said that “Lautaro keeps getting better over the past few years.”

“In my first season here he scored 27 goals. Then in my second, he scored 28.”

“He’s taking on more and more responsibility,” Inzaghi said of his captain.

“He just grows more and more, and he has immersed himself in our football.”

Inzaghi Hopes Inter Can Be Even Stronger Than Last Season

Inzaghi reflected that “I’ve been at Inter for two years. I’m happy to be at this great club with fantastic fans.”

“We know we have responsibilities. But we’ve also won trophies, and given our fans experiences they haven’t had in a long time.”

As for whether Inter are stronger after the summer transfer window, Inzaghi said “That’s the hope.”

“We know we’ve lost some key players. But for my staff and I, when we make so many changes it’s satisfying to see the team still have the same style of play.”
