Inter Milan President Promises: ‘No Big Player Sales This Summer’ | OneFootball

Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta has promised that there will not be any big player sales from the Nerazzurri this summer.

The Nerazzurri President spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, at the official opening of the Italian transfer window.

In the past few years, there have been a number of high profile departures from Inter.

In the summer of 2021, the Nerazzurri sold both Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku for huge transfer fees.

Then in 2022, Inter negotiated with Paris Saint-Germain for another big money sale, this time that of defender Milan Skriniar.

Skriniar ended up staying that summer. But then last summer, he left to join PSG on a free transfer.

And Skriniar was not the only big name player to leave Inter last summer.

The Nerazzurri also sold Andre Onana to Manchester United for a big fee.

This has just been the financial reality that Inter have dealt with over the last few years. And it has naturally led to some fears about how this summer will go.

But according to Nerazzurri Preisdent Marotta, there is hardly cause for alarm.

As far as what Inter’s plan is for the rest of the summer transfer window, Marotta said “Nothing particularly.”

“We acted very quickly, thanks to the work of Ausilio and Baccin.”

“We’ve signed Zielinski and Taremi on free transfers,” Marotta noted.

“The team is already competitive. Now we have to bring in a goalkeeper.”

As far as whether the new keeper would be Genoa’s Josep Martinez, Marotta said that “It could be him.”

“After that, then the team is all ready to go. Unless something happens unexpectedly – the beauty of football is that it’s unpredictable.”

“But I hope not,” said the Inter President.

And as far as whether Inter will have to make any big sales for financial reasons this summer, Marotta said “No.”

“Let’s say that modern clubs, particularly Italian, have to strive for sustainability.”

“And I would even go as far as to say survival. Which requires balancing things financially.”

Marotta made clear that “At the moment we’re calm thanks to Oaktree’s ownership.”

“So we don’t need [to make a big sale].”

“So when I talk about unpredictability I’m talking about signings,” Marotta said. “Not sales.”

And of the contract extension of Simone Inzaghi, the Inter President said that “We have an excellent relationship with Inzaghi.”

“Negotiations are ongoing,” he continued.

“But it’s part of the dynamics of football. With utmost respect, Inzaghi deserves a lot, but we also have to think and act fairly.”

“So it’s normal that there will be some disagreements. I’m sure that it will end with both parties being happy.”
