Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass is a wanted man at the moment.

According to the Sheffield Star, Derby County, Hull City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion are keen, with the Tigers interested in both manager Danny Rohl and Windass.

It remains to be seen whether the Owls can retain the player.

As things stand, Windass is still in contract talks, but his deal expires in the summer and it won't be long before he can start negotiating with other clubs.

He may be 30, making him a less attractive player for clubs who want to prioritise signing younger players, but Windass has plenty of EFL experience under his belt and played his part in keeping the South Yorkshire side afloat in the Championship.

The fact the Owls have remained in the second tier may have boosted their chances of keeping him, but it's unclear whether he will stay at Hillsborough with the player yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Family connection could aid Hull City in Josh Windass pursuit

West Brom may have secured the highest league finish out of the teams in this race, with Derby being promoted from League One, so the Baggies may fancy their chances of securing a deal for Windass.

However, Hull could give the attacker the opportunity to remain in Yorkshire, which could give them an advantage in their quest to get a deal over the line.

As well as this, Josh's father Dean used to play for the Tigers, establishing himself as a real hero at the club during his time there.

He enjoyed a number of spells with the club, proving to be a prolific scorer for them in the 1990s before joining on loan during the latter stages of his career.

Joining on loan in early 2007, he then moved back to the club permanently during the same year, and scored an impressive volley in the 2008 play-off final against Bristol City to take Hull to the Premier League.

Windass Jr may receive a warmer welcome to Hull than at any other interested team because of that - and his father could be in his ear all summer about a potential switch to the MKM Stadium.

This factor could be crucial for the Tigers if they want to win the race for the Wednesday man.

Danny Rohl factor may not harm Hull City in Sheffield Wednesday swoop

Hull have recently suffered a blow in their managerial pursuit.

Wednesday boss Rohl is believed to be of interest to the Tigers, but it has been revealed that it would take around £10m to lure him and his staff away from the Owls.

That will surely rule out the possibility of the Tigers luring the German boss to the MKM Stadium, although Acun Ilicali may not be too upset with that, considering Tim Walter seems to be a strong contender to take the job.

It may have helped Hull to have Rohl as their manager if they did want to secure the signature of Windass, with the attacker a real admirer of his current manager.

However, it's probably not essential for Hull to have Wednesday's boss in their quest to sign the 30-year-old, because there are plenty of reasons why the latter may be keen on a switch to East Yorkshire, aside from the fact his father used to play for them.

Firstly, Hull seem to be a side on the up, having made progress under their current owner Ilicali.

There definitely seems to be a good vibe at the MKM Stadium and the Tigers have some very talented players at their disposal, with the club being able to lure the likes of Ryan Giles, Fabio Carvalho and Jaden Philogene to East Yorkshire in recent windows.

Even if Jacob Greaves and Philogene are sold this summer, Hull still have a good chance of being successful in the future, with Ilicali showing a real willingness to invest.
