The club have also exercised the option to retain the services of Marvin Johnson and Callum Patterson, ensuring their stay for another season in the blue and white.

Tyreeq Bakinson, Ciaran Brennan, George Byers, Juan Delgado, Lee Gregory and Reece James have all been released following the expiration of their contracts and are now free agents.

Meanwhile, loanees James Beadle, Momo Diaby, Ashley Fletcher, Jeff Hendrick, Kristian Pedersen, Ian Poveda and Iké Ugbo have returned to their respective parent clubs.

As confirmed by the club, long-time servants Barry Bannan and Josh Windass have been offered new deals to extend their Wednesday careers.

Alongside them, Cameron Dawson, Di'Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa, Liam Palmer and Will Vaulks have all received new contract offers from the club.

Windass has been the subject of reported interest from EFL clubs, with Hull City, Stoke City, West Brom and Derby county all credited with an interest in the 30-year-old.

At age 34, and after over 400 total appearances for Wednesday, it may well be true to say Bannan is no longer able to play at the level he once did in the Championship.

But that isn't to say the Scotsman should be waving goodbye to Hillsborough this summer, as he still played a pivotal role in securing second tier survival under manager Danny Rohl.

The Wednesday legend's 165 accurate long balls put him in the top 98.5% of Championship players in his position this season, meaning only 1.5% of second tier central midfield players scored better.

Meanwhile, his 61 chances was only bettered by 4.5% of Championship central midfielders, per FotMob.

Bannan now looks set to sign on with Wednesday for at least another year, and that shouldn't be met with rolled eyes, as he's proved there's still some magic left in his creative boots yet.

Windass shouldn't snub new deal

Windass is a player that falls into the category of perhaps being too good for League One, but not quite good enough to shine at Championship level.

Six goals and two assists in 25 league matches last season paints that sort of picture, as he was outscored by his respective attacking partners Anthony Musaba (seven) and Iké Ugbo (11).

The 30-year-old Englishman is a regular starter in the Owls side when fit, and should he look for pastures new this summer, hey may well find that difficult especially at those Championship clubs listed as having an interest.

Should Windass intend to continue playing 90 minutes week in, week out, then penning a new deal at Hillsborough should be the clear option.

But if he was to turn down a new deal with Wednesday, fans shouldn't lose optimism or sleep when it comes to how they'll find a replacement.

Ultimately, his goal and assist returns of last season aren't of those numbers that scream irreplaceable, and there shouldn't be a shortage of players who will want to come and play football under Rohl.
